SOUTH REGION INTEL REPORT FOR TEXAS AND LOUISIANA: 29 JULY 2020
TEXAS
A group known as the Young Ambitious Activists is planning a vigil next week in honor of Garrett Foster, the armed BLM supporter who was killed in a confrontation with a motorist on 25 July.
SIGACT: The Young Ambitious Activists (YAA) are a San Antonio-based group that sprung up in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death. Though, despite their recent entry into the social justice scene, they have a following that is believed to number at least 250.
The YAA draws their ideological inspiration from the Black Lives Matter movement. However, while they join in BLM protests, the YAA’s focus tends to be on issues of community service. Primarily, the group’s efforts address voter registration, expanding educational opportunity, coping with distance learning, and lack of internet access.
There is no known history of violent action with this group.
SITREP: The vigil is scheduled for 1900, 8 AUG 2020 at Travis Park in San Antonio. From there, the activists plan to march to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, at 451 Jefferson Street, in honor of Foster.
RECOMMENDATION: Though the YAA is BLM-affiliated, at this time there’s no reason to believe this demonstration poses a threat.
Weatherford, Texas (30 miles west of Fort Worth and Tyler, Texas (East Texas) were the scenes of violent confrontations between Antifa/BLM/EIE (Enough is Enough) and locals in the two towns.
In Weatherford, armed locals turned out to confront a group called Parker County Progressives and EIE when they arrived to protest and demand the removal of a Confederate statue in the town.
In Tyler, a Portland Protest Rally and Back the Blue event also turned ugly as the rival groups collided.
RECOMMENDATION: Between the attack on a group of people at a restaurant in Dallas on 14 July, theshooting death of an armed BLM supporter in Austin on 25 July, and the violence in Weatherford and Tyler that same weekend, coupled with spiking COVID rates, Texas is getting more and more volatile. Caution should be exercised in all parts of the state. Especially in large cities and any towns that still display Confederate statues.

Austin, much like Portland, is into its second month of nightly protests. Given the shooting of an armed BLM supporter at a protest on 25 July, there is a heightened potential for violent protests and, possibly, violent reprisals against motorists in the city.
RECOMMENDATION: Avoid Austin, specifically the Downtown area around Congress Avenue.
The Republican Party of Bexar County (Texas) is organizing a pro-police rally.
SIGACT: Pro-Police and “Back the Blue” events have frequently been the scene of violent confrontations between police supporters and Antifa/BLM activists. Earlier this month, in Denver, a Back the Blue event was ruined by rioters who stormed the stage and assaulted several people. Last weekend, in Tyler, pro-police demonstrators confronted Antifa activists and there were reported injuries.
SITREP: The rally is scheduled to take place on 1 August from 1800-2030 at 315 S Santa Rosa St, San Antonio, TX.
RECOMMENDATION: Given the growth is activist movements in San Antonio and the past violence at pro-police events, there is a high probability of violence at this event. If not taking part in the protest, it is advised that AMCON members avoid the area.
