INTEL ALERT: AUSTIN, TEXAS
While non-specific in terms of sourcing, there has been a significant increase in the amount of activist social media chatter regarding potential unrest in Austin this weekend.
SITREP: Posts and threads have been located on Facebook and other platforms which point to riots and large-scale demonstrations in response to the shooting death of an armed BLM supporter in Austin on 25 July. Several of the posts mention a stepped-up Antifa presence to include militants brought in from out-of-state. Some of these posts indicate militants could be bussed in from as far away as Portland.
A few posts reference a mission objective of establishing a CHAZ-like autonomous zone within Austin.
RECOMMENDATIONS: It needs to be stressed that the sourcing of this information does not come from official accounts directly associated with Antifa/BLM. However, the increase of specific and consistent posts from different leftist sources suggests that something could indeed be in the works.
This, coupled with the reported defacing of a memorial to Garrett Foster and the Austin City Council’s decision this week to call racism a “public health crisis” that is “literally killing black and brown people,” makes the situation even more volatile.
The Texas and Louisiana intel report from 29 July already stressed the need to avoid Austin, specifically, the Downtown area around Congress Avenue, if at all possible. This report should serve to buttress that recommendation.
