INTEL ALERT: NEW ORLEANS
The New Orleans Workers Group (NOWG) is organizing a rally/protest aimed at abolishing the police and the department of Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE). In addition, the group seeks the removal of federal law enforcement officers from Portland, Chicago, and Albuquerque.
SIGACT: There is evidence that the New Orleans Workers Group - or a significant portion of their membership - have been active in anti-eviction protests in the New Orleans area as recently as this week. The NOWG plays an active role in organizing working-class people for protest. The group has also made appearances at PRIDE rallies and other pro-LGBT events.
While the NOWG is not known as a particularly violent organization, their flyers and Facebook page celebrate the “heroic Portland protesters.” Given their praise of the Portland rioters, there is every possibility the group could become inspired to become more violent.
SITREP: The protest is scheduled for 1 August 2020 at 1800 in New Orleans. According to NOWG flyers, the assembly point is Duncan Plaza. 1201-1499 Perdido St, New Orleans, LA 70112
RECOMMENDATION: Avoid Duncan Plaza and the surrounding area on 1 August.
