INTEL ALERT: TYLER, TEXAS
Black Lives Matter of East Texas is holding a Women’s March. The march is aimed at protesting against police brutality, remembering Breonna Taylor and other black women killed in altercations with the police, LGBT issues, and various other causes.
SIGACT: There is very little data on Black Lives Matter, East Texas. The possibility that the group is only recently formed is strong.
SITREP: Black Lives Matter of East Texas is holding a Women’s March on 1 August 2020 from 1700-2200 hours at The Square in Downtown Tyler, 100 N. Broadway Ave, Tyler, TX
RECOMMENDATIONS: While there is some dispute over the size of the confrontation, Tyler was the scene of an altercation between Antifa/BLM and counter-protesters on 25 July. So, the tension in Tyler is already heightened. In addition, while info on Black Lives Matter East Texas is scarce at best, the group they are partnering with to organize this event is called “Tyler's History Of Racism & Hatred” and Mica Bonner.
Given the recent tension in Tyler and this group’s stance that the entire town seems to be racist, extreme caution should be used. There is a high probability of locals organizing a significant counter-protest and reports from last weekend’s confrontation suggest that the police in Tyler did very little, if anything, to intervene in the altercation.
The recommendation is to avoid Tyler, Texas on 1 August.
