PROTEST ADVISORY: DALLAS, TEXAS
Black Lives Matter and BLM-affiliated religious groups in Dallas are planning a “Black Lives Matter Ride for Justice” caravan in Dallas on 9 August.
SIGACT: The churches and spiritual leaders involved in organizing this event have a history of overt BLM support. Some have spoken publicly in favor of BLM initiatives, many display BLM signage in church parking lots and on buildings. No known history of violent activism associated with this group.
SITREP:
Where: The assembly point for the caravan is at the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at 3030 Stag Rd, Dallas, Texas, 75241. The caravan’s destination is Friendship-West Baptist Church at 2020 W. Wheatland Rd, Dallas, Texas, 75232.
When: The assembly time is 0830 on 9 August.
RECOMMENDATION: Previous Texas intel reports noted that a group of pro-police demonstrators recently made an uninvited and unwelcome appearance at Friendship-West Baptist Church, and that there might be a response from Friendship-West and other BLM-affiliated religious groups in the area, this caravan appears to be that response.
The religious leaders believe the visit from pro-police demonstrators was an intimidation tactic, and they wish to show they will not be intimidated.
There is no evidence to suggest that this event will become violent. There is every reason to believe, however, that it well lead to traffic congestion in the area and will gain lots of media attention.
The recommendation is to avoid the caravan route mentioned above and the surrounding area.
