PROTEST ADVISORY: AUSTIN, TEXAS
A group of motorcyclists is planning a "Ride for Reform" in Austin.
SIGACT: This group has staged similar mobile social justice protests in the past. No known violence associated with this group.
SITREP:
When: 1800-2000 on 8 August
Where: The assembly point is the H-E-B parking lot near the Hancock Center, which is located at 1000 East 41st Street Austin, Texas.
According to the group's FB page, the "ride will be through DT, snaking our way past the Capitol and APD HQ possibly make a few passes but we’ll over all try to make our presence known as much as possible in the area."
RECOMMENDATION: As of the time of this writing, 48 people have responded to the "Ride for Reform" FB invite. There is no known history of violence with the group organizing the "Ride for Reform" group. Though, the announcement for the event has been shared on Antifa/BLM such as "Peace in Austin" and others, who are known to be involved with violent leftist militants. Given that the caravan will make its way past APD headquarters, the scene of much civil unrest, the possibility for violence is certainly there.
The recommendation is to avoid Downtown Austin on 8 August
