PROTEST ADVISORY: DALLAS, TEXAS
The Next Generation Action Network (NGAN) is planning a "Black Out the System" rally and march. The goal of the march is to "stand up against systemic oppression and racism by demanding equality of justice for minorities and victims of police brutality. Demanding reparations for minorities."
SIGACT: The NGAN was created in 2014 as a "platform to the next generation across America, giving a voice to human and civil rights initiatives." There is no known history of violence with this group.
SITREP: The rally and march is to take place from 1500-1800 on 16 August. The assembly point is Main Street Garden Park, 1950 Main St, Dallas Texas.
RECOMMENDATION: Though there is no known history of violence regarding the NGAC, they are Black Lives Matter affiliated and the rhetoric in the event announcement is aggressive. Specifically, the group is angered by the alleged actions of the Dallas Police Department when a group of pro-police demonstrators showed up at Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas a few weeks ago.
The NGAC claims that the pro-police demonstrators were Klansmen who were escorted onto the property by DPD. Reports of what transpired that day do not seem to support these claims. Nonetheless, the group is using that version of events as an example of the "system" working hand-in-hand with the Klan to intimidate black people.
Given the rhetoric involved there is a significant potential for violence with this demonstration and the area surrounding Main Street Garden Park should be avoided.
